Dark Ichor band logo and album art

Dark Ichor is a Wellington based extreme rock band, formed in 2019. The word ‘Ichor’ is classical Greek, referring to the blood running in the veins of the Olympian gods.

I reflected that ethereal, classical nature in my work, a feeling of mystical antiquity. The genres of metal and extreme rock are intensely passionate, so the deep blood red I felt suited the band and their passion well.

I also had the opportunity to create album art for their album art ‘The I in Faith’ and single art for one of the tracks ‘Bastard Dogs’. Having graduated as a Classics student, I took in my Greek mythology knowledge and created my version of Cerebus: the great three-headed dog that guarded the entrance to the Greek underworld, Erebus. This served as single art for ‘Bastard Dogs’.

I had an interesting method of producing these two pieces. I would sketch on paper the images, and then photograph them very close to a lamp, providing an angry orange-red colour and ‘bleeding’ effect. The saturation was enhanced digitally and small edits were then made in photoshop.
